Third place overall at Cena Východních Čech three stages orienteering competition

Monday August 28

I was told by my coach Radim I did too much faster trainings during last two months than I should. He wanted me to focus just for developing my general endurance skills. Last message from him „keep working on your endurance“.

Thursday August 31

31°C, sunbathing and swimming. What a summer!

9:00, Friday September 1

Making a call to Radim and planning our meeting. Radim mentions he is leaving this day for the orienteering competition Cena Východních Čech. „What? I wanna go there!“ was my reaction. Radim says then go! „What? I thought you told me clearly I am not supposed to do any faster trainings, definitely not three days of racing!“ „Nja, it is more than less time to start with something faster“. „OK, give me 10min and I will confirm you if I am going to Cena Východních Čech!“

9:10, Friday September 1

I announce Radim I’m going to CVČ! During those 10min I managed to get a starting position from Terka Odehnalová who was offering her starting place on Facebook (one of few benefits of using FB) and get a ride from another friend.

9:13, Friday September

It is nice and sunny in Olomouc. What will the weather be like at competition place? EEEEEGH, 13°C and lot of rain! Have I just confirmed I am going there? Yes, I did. Počasí nepočasí, we go!

10:10, Friday September 1

Packed for the weekend races as well as next weeks job at Malá Skála. I am definitely missing something, hopefully something I can survive without.

15:30, Friday September 1

Weather is exactly as the forecast promised. Maybe some degrees even colder. Anyway, I am excited to go for some fast run and do orienteering! The only thing I regret is that I found it pussy to take a thermo top. My fingers are pretty blue at the start line. Whatever, I have to run fast to get warm.

16:15, Friday September 1

Nice terrain, nice race, but in my opinion little bit too easy. 4th place. Satisfied with my performance. Now it is time to get warm.

21:30, Friday September 1

I finally feel warm!!!!!

Saturday, September 2

Really nice long distance race! The course was much more interesting than yesterday. Some long legs with tricky route choices. Physically also quite demanding. Despite the Vysočina area is quite flat, the underground sucked with litres of water made it tough to run. 4th place with quite small loss to the winner. I did some small mistakes, but generally I am satisfied. I am ranked at 3rd place after two stages.

You know what? We saw (and felt!!) sun later in the evening! What an unknown feeling!

Sunday, September 3

Last stage with interval start. A shorter long distance. Our course went through a very good runable forest and also quite lot of forest roads/paths so I didn’t find this day that tough. I found the course very easy, didn’t do any mistake at all. I finished again fourth but we were there five girls in 40seconds. Very happy to defend my 3rd place position.

Final results

1. Lenka Kociánová

2. Zdenka Kozáková

3. Johanka Šimková

Congrats to the experienced ladies in front of me. I am impressed how fast they can run.
