Czech XC University Championship - my medal success among XC skiers
I checked the date of the Czech Cross Country University Championship before the season. I really wanted to compete. But if I aimed to go to World Championship, CCCUC didn't fit at all to the preparation.
It was only few hours after my last race at European Championship. Some athletes (only those not going to WC expect Petr) talked and planned their way to CCCUC. Willing or not I listened to their talks. It "nahlodalo" me and I started to have thoughts about competing there.
So yes, yesterday - the day before the first CCCUC race I asked to be registred for the next day's race. It was quite complicated because this yesterday was also my first day at new university (master studies at Mendel University in Brno). But the CCCUC organizers were very kind and registered me for the race.
Today morning I was driving to Nové město na Moravě - the CCCUC competition centre. It was about 40hours after my last EC race and one sleepless night out of two. I was not sure if I want to compete. It was super foggy. I felt tired. I knew it is not smart to compete. But once we got out of the fog, it turned into a beautiful sunny day. I got in that racing mood. I will compete!
Due to the fog, we arrived pretty late. Exactly 40min before my start. I just changed clothes and warmed up going through the 2,5km long track. In the race I was supposed to make it twice. This track included the steepest and biggest hills from all skiing tracks in Nové Město. My legs hurt. I was definitely not recovered after the EC. But whatever. I stood at the starting line. Píp píp píp go! First round went pretty well but I got really tired. Especialy my legs. I had really big difficulties to control them in the second round. I really hoped not to get out of the track in downhill turns as I was not able to control my legs. They were totally full of lactate. Fortunately, it was only 15:36 long fight all and all. And what a great surprise when it turned out it was enough for the third place! So happy to win a medal from cross country university championship! And it felt even better when I found out, there were 20girls competing (19 counting to the CCCUC).
Furthermore, my ski-o national team mate Petr Horvát also won bronze medal in mens class! It was a day full of happiness.
It was a great warm and sunny weather and I met lot of orienteering friend! I am really happy I took part at this event. Can you imagine a better second day "at" new university?
But now I really have to put a big focus to recover properly. So I started with sunset easy skiing on "krusta" in the afternoon. Local fields were great place for skiing. And I have got a great company. Just f-a-b-o-l-o-u-s! :)
