You can't stop the wave but you can learn to surf
My most favourite camp of the year in north Spain - surfing camp.
Finally that time of the year is here! Time to go south, time to zkrotit vlny. Nja, my surfing skills are far from that but doesn't matter. Surfing is about passion. Enjoying the freedom. Living in the moment...
Three years ago we were five kids hungry to learn this sport. Last year we were thirteen. Somehow, it happend we are sixteen guys ambitious to surf this year. So cool! Soon we can book a whole bus :P
Looooong journey.
Too long not to take a selfie...
We arrived late evening to Oyambre. It is raining and cold. The surf camp of Star Surf seemes to be in the middle of nowhere. I can read sheepish thoughts in most of our faces. C'mon, we are not made of sugar, it will be fun!
So it was. Weather gets better upcoming day. Super delicious breakfast brings happines to all of us. Surf camp wakes up slowly and we finally get a chance to see the beauty and spirit of this surfers place.
Time to get in the water! Our first lesson is scheduled on evening, but we can't wait, Grab some boards and let's get in the water! Brrrr, it's so cold. But couple of pop ups and we are fine. More than fine! :)
Every morning, we did take advantage of organized morning yogas and treated our bodies while sun going up with a breathtaking view to The Picos de Europa mountain range. Great start for every single day.
Some of us can not resist the view to mountains so we've planned a one-day trip there. It was three hours long running session in pretty high attitude. Amazing summer weather, beatiful scenery. I could be running there daily!
But also our jogging sessions barefoot on the seacoast were super duper. Cool to see the water level difference when low and high tide. Cool to explore some clifts. Cool to splash salt water on eachother. Cool to lay down in the hot sand and enjoy the sunshine.
One could say this is a holiday, not any training camp. You are wrong. This is a damn good training! You are really exhausted after some hours of walking agains waves, paddeling, jumping on the board (and falling in the water).
Surfing is a very good alternative training for strenghting your whole body, for improving your balance and breathing. One week is just perfect to recover your body and mind from a daily stress. Surfers life is so full of "how're'u'doin'man and don't worry be happy". When you add all those running, swimming, strenght and yoga sessions, you get really profitable training week!
Like every year, it was a great sporty and social event. All of us improved their surfing skills, met new friends, tried something new and brought lot of unforgettable memories. Thank you all for making this round the way it was.
Thanks all stuff from the Star Surf Camp for their care and help. Lauren was a fantastic surf insturctor and Benji was a great company 24/7 not only for girls (despite it was not his official job ;) ). Can't wait for another surifng time!
